The First Post of 2007...

I was tagged by Daryl.

I am supposed to be sharing 5 things that no one knows about me - slightly difficult when there are a couple people in my life who know pretty much everything there is to know about me, so I'll stick to things the general population might not know :).

1. I like talking with people, but I hate the phone - as much as I can avoid it, I will. It's an evil invention that interrupts my life, and can make conversations even with the most loved people in my life, extremely awkward. There is just something about lacking face to face contact with some one that makes me nervous. One would think it would be the opposite, but I can't handle the awkward pauses and lack of facial expressions on part of the other person. Perhaps its because I usually read people based on their actions and facial expressions... i'm not really sure. My detest for the phone has come into direct conflict in the last 1.5 years or so though as my job with Christian Horizons has forced me to keep telephone communication lines open with a large variety of organizations, doctors, therapists, etc. for my clients. It's also been challenged by the fact that I am currently not living in Hamilton, so to keep in contact with people in this area, particularily a certain boy (though talking to him proves to me much easier than to most strangers.. ;)), I 've been forced to get a little more used to being on the ever so dreaded phone... to the point where I'm starting to be o.k. with it (shh.. don't tell!)

2. I play the piano — with little skill, but much enthusiasm. I have my grade 6 Royal Conservatory and my grade 1 theory. I especially like playing Christmas songs... and playing Jesus Loves me with my nephew because he likes singing with me :).

3. I’m allergic to cats. In fact, the more I’m with cats, the more allergic I become. Results from being around cats too much include sneezing, red, itchy eyes, and rashes on my face or arms. Such a reaction has drastically decreased my love for these creatures – to the point that while I love kittens, there are very few cats out there that I can actually say I ‘”like” .

4. I have worked at Tim-Hortons. I didn’t work there long, 4 weeks to be exact. At the time I was working for Dairy Queen as well, and while the draw for extra cash seemed good at the time, it proved to be not such a great experience in reality. I was working all weekend (Saturday & Sunday) shifts on top of my shifts at DQ and was going to have to work Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve , so instead I opted out. I still have the uniform though… if anyone’s interested.

5. From grade 5 to about grade 10 I wore glasses before making the switch to contact lenses (best move of my life!). This wouldn’t be so bad except my glasses were hideous , huge, and quite, quite ugly. I also had braces from grade 5 to grade 8 (we moved during this time, so you can imagine my delight in going to a new school as a ‘four-eyes’ with railroad tracks).

6. I have never been drunk – nor do I ever desire to be in the future.

7. When I was 19 I shot a bb-gun at muskrats. We did not kill them, but merely gave them severe headaches when they chose to come too close to the cottage property I was staying at. We were trying to teach them a lesson - it was actually quite fun. Please don’t hate me if you are an animal activist .

Also - seven is my favourite number - hence the reason I chose to stop my list at 7 instead of 5!

Satisfyed Daryl? ;)
