"Wherever at the moment there is most to do for the Saviour, that is our home" -- Moravian motto for living
We discussed this quote in History of Mission today. It really struck a chord in my heart. How often, Goheen noted, do we actively seek the best ways and places in which we can use our talents and gifts? How often do we search out the place of greatest need and situate ourselves there? More often than not, i would have to admit, i sit around waiting for such opportunities to use my 'talents' to come to me. My motto would more likely be "wherever my home is, there shall i do my work for my Saviour" (And even to this motto i admit to being somewhat of a failure). Not to say that this is wrong in and of itself, for, wherever we are, we most certainly should make it our mission to serve the Lord in what ways we can. However, there is something to be said for the Moravian motto for living. That is, they had such a passion to serve God and such an attitude of gratitude for what Christ had done for them that they SOUGHT OUT the places where they could be of the MOST use for God. They were not satisfied with being mediocre.. they wanted to give their ALL, just as Christ had given his all for them. It was, in their eyes, but the least they could do. Such commitment and willingness for sacrifice puts me to shame...
